At the risk of sounding like a braggart, a lot of the work we do with our clients is successful. Results are up, more money is coming in, donors interact and share, development staff are happy…
Because we think inside the box.
Oh, I know the golden goal and drive in life and business is to think “outside the box”. That’s where all the good stuff is right? Fame, fortune, that elusive breed of donor we hear about at conferences…. Lets get outside the box people!!!!!
I’m going to let you in on a few Agents of Good secrets but seriously, you can’t tell anyone this ok? Otherwise we will be out of business.
First, people have been doing this direct response thing for… Well… A long time. Would you agree for about 2,000 years Mr. Burnett? And in that time, they have tried everything… And when I say everything, I mean… like… Any idea that you’ve had that you thought was the most brilliant idea ever? Yah. That’s been done. Sorry.
Second, human psychology and behavior (of which I have absolutely zero education in) suggest that if you smile at people, they smile back. If you respect, love and remember you donors, guess what happens…
Third, you can never show too much sincere gratitude. You can never be too appreciative of your accomplishments that was made possible because some caring, inspired and giving folks decided to pitch in and help…
And by the way, all of this (waving hands in circles in the air): totally in the box.
Sadly there are many charities, agencies and consultants wandering around so far outside the box, they are completely lost. No idea what to do next, failing in accomplishing even the most basic of direct response principals, chasing every mirage or promise of unrealistic results.
Come back to the box folks. All of your donors are in here waiting for you.
And let me be clear, you can still be innovative and creative inside of the box, trust me, we are. But stop chasing a ghost you’ll never catch.
